Back in February I was tagged by Katie of My Sandbox for a 7 weird or random facts about you meme. Then Ute of Ute and Trolls tagged me for a 5 things about you meme. So here we go with some odd factoids:
1) I lived in South Central LA when I was a little girl until we moved at the beginning of 4th grade. I was the only white girl in school (there was another white kid but he was older and not in my class). At recess all the girls wanted to touch my hair and play with it. Soon I started asking my mom to put my hair up in a bun everyday. Sometimes it was styled a la Princess Leia but this was before the movie came out. :-)
2) I played the violin from 5th to 8th grade even though I'm fairly sure that I'm tone deaf. That said, I won a Superior rating at the local music contest and went to the regionals. That was the year that I played the same solo at three school concerts. Now I can only remember a few bars from it and have no clue as to what it's called.
3) My first job was at Magic Mountain theme park in soCal. My costume was an orange gingham shirt, dark brown coveralls and white apron. :-)
4) My grandmother taught me how to sew my first garment - a pair of diaper shorts made out of brown calico. I remember that we used a binding foot to attach the store bought dark brown binding.
5) I like the look of palm trees. They remind me of LA and the beach.
6) My name means palm tree in Hebrew. But I've always pronounced it as TAAH-muh-ruh not Tah-MAH-rah because that sounded like "tomorrow" to me. That's exactly why I ignored a teacher in the first grade when they were calling for me. Eventually I told them that my name wasn't "tomorrow" but "Tamara" or "Tami". Hmm, I guess I was a bit of a smart alec, no?
7) My first car was an extremely cool bright red convertible '72 Pontiac LeMans Sport with a factory installed GTO front end and 350 V8 engine. Way cool! I really liked that car and had it for 7 years before I had to sell it. I couldn't afford the gas anymore and it needed to be restored. It only got 8 mpg. Uh yeah, not the most fuel efficient car, oh but it was fast!
