Luna watching Dave work on Steve's SRF race car. This happened a lot during the weekend at Infineon Raceway for the SCCA races.
Luna tries on Steve's helmet for size. Hmm, perhaps an extra small would fit better?
Luna explains the importance of the HANS or Head-And-Neck-Support device. It's a good thing that both Steve and Dave wear one for races because both of them had spins and crashes this weekend.
Steve's #29 car was having problems on Friday's test day. He kept spinning at turn 6 (or what they call the carousel). Finally Dave hopped in Steve's car (after the foot pedals were adjusted back ... Dave's a TALL guy!) and took it for a test drive. Dave's been driving race cars for over ten years and is very experienced yet he too had a spectacular four revolution spin at turn 6. That's when they discovered that the car's timing was off.
On Sunday morning Steve crashed in the first race. With the help of Dave and Fred (our crew chief) we got Steve's car ready in time for the second race on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately that was also a doozy of a race. Both Dave and Steve crashed their cars on different laps at turn 7. They ended up watching the rest of the race from the flag stand.
Luna hangs out with Steve at pre-grid for the first race on Sunday morning. It was a large field with 36 cars! Dave's blue/yellow car is to the left two rows ahead of Steve.
Luna watches Steve pass the Start/Finish Line during practice. As you can see from the clear blue skies, it was a gorgeous weekend. The temperature soared to 110 degrees on Friday and cooled down to the mid 90s for the rest of our time there. Needless to say, we drank gallons of water and tried to stay in the shade when we could. We had a great time once we cooled off. Our friends Lance and Trena came to watch the race on Monday with their two girls, Miss L and Miss J. It was so sweet to watch them cheer on Steve. Miss J cried when she heard that Steve had crashed. But she soon felt better once we assured her that Steve wasn't hurt, just his car. Awwww. Luna kept her company for a bit and soon all was right in our world. How was your weekend?
