During our vacation I had to finish and mail off the finished quilt for the Cotton Round Robin. Before we left I spray-basted it then machine sewed the binding to the quilt. While we were driving I hand sewed the binding to the back and then began hand quilting it with a nice blue perle cotton. It was a nice way to spend the hours spent driving across the plains of Kansas to Colorado and then on the Wyoming. I mailed it to Nan from the post office at the courthouse building in Cheyenne. Here's a few pictures of it. I couldn't resist taking it at one of the mini cabins at the KOA campground.
Earlier in the robin I sewed the 1st border to Kate's center block:
Then I sewed the 2nd border to Kristin's center block:
Before all of that, way back earlier in the year, I sewed my center block for the round robin. I decided to use all of my favorite green fabrics and made a dresden plate. I like to reverse applique' the center with a contrast piping. I'm so glad that I chose that color because it looks so great with the greens later on in the finished quilt. Here's the center:
Here's my finished quilt. Julie (Floribunda) sewed the 1st border, Jay sewed the 2nd border and Sophie did all the beautiful quilting and finishing of the quilt. I think that skinny black/white polka dot stripe is the perfect touch to double frame the quilt.
The back with some of Jay's left over blocks sewn as a strip ... love that detail! I still have to sew on the label but I almost don't want to ruin the lovely look of the back as is. Maybe I'll make the label a polka dot sleeve so that it's a subtle touch.
And some close ups of Sophie's brilliant FMQ skills. I really need to practice doing this as I'd like to be this good one day. Notice how she used a multi-colored thread to stitch.
I'm so happy with how my quilt center turned out. It's one of my all-time favorite round robin quilts ever!! Thank you Julie, Jay and Sophie for all the hard work that you did on it. And another round of thanks to Julie for hosting the this round robin. Please go see all the other quilts at The Cotton Robin blog.
