Our three week trip started with Memorial Day weekend at my brother-in-law's lake property at Linn Valley Lake near Kansas City, KS. We started from Sunnyvale, CA late one evening stopping at Gold Run rest area about 20 - 30 miles from Donner Pass. The next day was a bit of driving and stops for Steve working on the computer. The third day we finally made it to the rest area a couple miles from Linn Valley in the wee hours of the night. Thank goodness Steve doesn't mind all the driving. We do like the passing scenery and we're not particular about where we spend the night. Often we'll stop at rest areas or truck stops. Of course that's the good thing about traveling by RV. Plus Fearghus is a good travel dog having been in a RV from the moment we picked him up as a puppy.
Not too many pictures but here's a few from that Sunday on the lake. It was just good to spend time with family. We haven't been back to Kansas since our nephew's bar mitzvah a few years back. It was just a coincidence that Saturday night was his confirmation so we had a quick trip into town for services at their shul. I'm always amazed by all the beautiful artwork that graces the hallway there. My favorite is a Chagall ... such gorgeous colors.
Fearghus thinking about jumping in the lake. He never did it but we dunked him in the lake to cool off. He was okay in the water as long as his back legs were firmly leaning on either Steve or myself. Maybe next time we'll see if he'll swim along by himself.
Doggie cousins, Cashew and Avery (don't they look cute in their life vests? We borrowed one for Fearghus to wear on Saturday but since he wasn't jumping in he went without one on Sunday):
It's tough work being on the pontoon boat:
The days were hot and clear ... one of the coves at the lake:
We temporarily tied off at private dock. I was busy helping with the ropes and didn't even think that Fearghus would escape. Wouldn't you know it, but the moment the boat was close to the dock he jumped and took off up the bank. I had to jump off too, chasing him and calling him. The little rascal thought it was a grand game and wouldn't listen. Fortunately Steve jumped off the jet ski and called him from dockside. Fearghus ran down the bank and was safely captured. After that he was leashed to the boat.
We had a lot of fun and were so happy that we were able to spend time with family. Next stop, Cheyenne.
