It's taking a while but I'm slowly getting the studio here in Cheyenne together. The other day I hung up a whiteboard with a list of all of my to-do projects to keep me on track. I find that I do better if I have a checklist.
A few of these projects aren't even started yet, just have the fabrics for them. But others have been started and are in various states of completion. My goal is to get all of these done within a year. Some are so close to being done so I anticipate a few of them being finished within a couple months. At least now I have it written down so that I can cross them off one by one. Since I took the picture I've added to the list for a total of 20 projects. Yeesh! Some of them have been in progress for years. Don't you think it's about time that they get finished? Not all are quilts or dolls, there are a few other types of projects as well.
Here's the corner where it hangs on the wall. The ironing board is slightly wider than normal. Ideally I'd like to build a larger rectangular one but this one is just fine for now. Plus it was inexpensive and from Target. There's room to the left of the sewing machine table for a taboret or small tower of drawers from ikea one day. The blinds are closed because too much light comes in on the sewing machine. I'm afraid that it will yellow the white plastic. I have a cafe style tension rod about a third the way up and just need to figure out what type of window covering to make for it. Then I'll be able to open the blinds again for much needed light. To the right of the window I'd like to hang up some type of thread storage.
I couldn't find my fabrics in the plastic bins so I bought two inexpensive bookcases from Target. They're not terribly sturdy and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone but they were only $30 each. In the future I think that I'd prefer the ikea Billy bookcases with a glass front door to protect the fabrics from sun damage. To the right of the bookcases there's space to put up a design wall. (As you can see, I have more than enough green fabric but could probably use a bit more purple.) The quilt on the wall is from the last flickr swap (Fab Little Quilt Swap) and on the table hiding behind a pile of fabric is a turquoise flying pig that I found when we first moved to Cheyenne. He was so adorable I just had to get him.
The cutting table was in our dining room but we soon decided that we didn't like the pub height and replaced it with another table. It's the perfect height for a cutting table so it was a win-win for us. So if you ever see a pub height table for sale on craigslist you may want to consider it for a cutting table. Eventually I'll make some curtains to go on the bottom of the table to disguise the underneath storage. That plastic tote houses all of my non-quilting cotton fabrics that I use in doll-making.
The other plastic bins are in the closet. Until I get some of the quilt projects completed there's no need to unpack the doll making supplies or beads, ribbons and other embellishments. It's easy enough to dig them out as necessary. There are a few items that I really don't need that should go on sale.
I like the white walls for the reflected light but there's a definite lack of personality in the room. When we go back to CA for a trip I'll get a few things out of storage to bring back with me. I do know that I don't miss the very large desk/hutch combo that I had in CA. The open space here is very nice indeed.
